Reflection 10th of May -Jess
Today Kathy and I wrote an email to Adrian, who is our contact within the Josephite organisation. It was the first time we have contacted him. In our email we asked him if he or a representative from the Organisation would be able to come in and talk to us about the Josephite's during our session on the 30th of May. It was interesting to make contact with the organisation and it makes me feel like we are moving forward and also makes the project more serious and exciting because we are working with organisations outside of school and we are starting to understand more about the refugees we will be spending time with and what we can do to help them. We have our weekend away and today we also discussed what we can do that would be helpful through out the rest of the service learning week. We also spent time discussing our weekend away and what we can do to make it more fun and be proactive and involve everyone.
Reflection 30th of May - Lexie
Today a representative from the Josephite organisation, Adrian, spoke to our Service Learning group about in depth the organisation's role and what activities are planned for our visit in November. It was unanimous among our group of how amazing and interesting this time was and further enticed us. In his account, numerous stories and examples of how lives' have been changed were told, bringing the element of humour and breaking the uncertainty some of us possessed. Overall, the experience was unforgettable, solidifying our excitement and passion for helping our wider community.
Reflection 25th of July - Shehani + Nivetha + Misuki
Congregating together for the first time after term break, our team was thoroughly energised and ready to engage with our project. For most of
the time, we were discussing details in regards to our trip, and the types of activities, gifts and entertainment we could bring to the families. In terms of the activities and gifts proposed for the ‘Josephite Community Aid’ program, we have included hampers, bubbles, face-painting, baking (possibly) etc. We were also joined by our student mentor who helped facilitate our discussion and go through the required work
for this session. Bella brought a scrapbook which we will use as a visual diary to chart our day to day progress. The scrapbook is a wonderful idea and it will allow us to record our experiences when we are on the camp/retreat. After discussing various aspects of our service learning, we were all delegated jobs in the remaining minutes of the session. Some girls prepared letters to send to JCA, others began decorating our scrapbook whilst others were reviewing the mini proposal. Overall our mini proposal was done well, however certain elements needed to be added such as the food list and details in regards to our bus transportation. Hence, our group worked harmoniously together and has had a marvellous start to term 3.

Reflection 22nd of August - Nivetha
Today we have lost a member and gained a member, Kathy Chong was accepted into the Tanzanian group, and Ellie Herron has joined it! We’re all very enthused about having a new member to work with, and saddened by our loss of another. We wish Kathy all the best, and are incredibly excited to have a new pair of hands to help us work on this project. We’re currently working on finalizing permission forms and our budget. Our final proposal is well underway and we are currently brainstorming a list of things for us to do in our Service learning week. Christmas hampers, play dough, bubbles – anything to keep the kids entertained! We’re adding to our scrapbook and things seem to be shaping up into something good!
